Tip 💡

Product strategy questions assess your ability to think structurally about high-level decisions. They test whether you can prioritize impactful strategic initiatives, weigh trade-offs, and align strategies with a company’s objectives.

To answer product strategy questions in a PM interview, follow this approach: Clarify the question by narrowing the scope and understanding the company’s current state and objectives. Then describe the company and its product(s), highlighting strengths, weaknesses, and priorities. List strategic choices (e.g., expand features, enter new markets) and define your criteria (e.g., user experience, revenue, effort) for evaluating them. Then evaluate each option by weighing pros and cons across these criteria. This will help you make a recommendation that aligns with the company’s goals.

Avoid forcing frameworks or tactical ideas. Focus on high-impact strategies. Show you can balance ambition with feasibility while keeping user and business needs central. Our product manager interview course explains the above framework in more detail.
